چکیده

It is known that phototoxicity is related to chemical structure. We have previously reported a prediction method of chemical structure-based in silico phototoxicity for in vitro 3T3 NRUPT assay. To improve the concordance of the method, here we added new descriptors related to another mechanism of phototoxicity. We focused on potential energy, which certainly contributes to chemical reactivity regardless of photo-irradiation. As a result, stretch-bend, a form of potential energy, was found as a new descriptor of phototoxicity. Our analysis strongly indicates that chemical reactivity is an important factor for phototoxic outcome.

The evolution of bioinformatics in toxicology: advancing toxicogenomics.

As one reflects back through the past 50 years of scientific research, a significant accomplishment was the advance into the genomic era. Basic research scientists have uncovered the genetic code and the foundation of the most fundamental building blocks for the molecular activity that supports biological structure and function. Accompanying these structural and functional discoveries is the ad...

Research strategies for safety evaluation of nanomaterials, part II: toxicological and safety evaluation of nanomaterials, current challenges and data needs.

This article summarizes a roundtable discussion held at the 2005 Society of Toxicology Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. The purpose of the roundtable was to review the current challenges and data needs for conducting toxicological and safety evaluations for nanomaterials, with the goals of presenting the current state-of-the science on the safety of nanomaterials and bringing together scienti...

Toxicological implications of modulation of gene expression by microRNAs.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a large family of non-coding RNAs that are evolutionarily conserved, endogenous, and 21-23 nucleotides in length. miRNAs regulate gene expression by targeting messenger RNAs (mRNAs) by binding to complementary regions of transcripts to repress their translation or mRNA degradation. miRNAs are encoded by the genome, and more than 1000 human miRNAs have been identified so f...

Are differences in microRNA regulation implicated in species-dependent response to toxicological exposures?

Equivalent exposures can result in qualitatively or quantitatively dissimilar toxic effects across species, with the underlying molecular mechanisms being often not well defined. In many cases, differences in metabolic handling of the chemical (metabolism and disposition) provide an explanation of these differences, but in other cases the explanation is less obvious. This variability in the out...

A unifying concept for assessing toxicological interactions: changes in slope.

Robust statistical methods are important to the evaluation of toxicological interactions (i.e., departures from additivity) among chemicals in a mixture. However, different concepts of joint toxic action as applied to the statistical analysis of chemical mixture toxicology data or as used in environmental risk assessment often appear to conflict with one another. A unifying approach for applica...

A Comprehensive Review of Punica granatum (Pomegranate) Properties in Toxicological, Pharmacological, Cellular and Molecular Biology Researches

Punica granatum (Pg), commonly known as pomegranate (Pg), is a member of the monogeneric family, Punicaceae, and is mainly found in Iran which is considered to be its primary centre of origin. Pg and its chemical components possess various pharmacological and toxicological properties including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory (by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines), anti-cancer and anti-angiog...
